Town Art Co., Ltd.
was founded in 1983 as a division of
*Kotobuki . Our areas of specialty
include planning and installation of Art Work, hosting lectures and events
on Public Art, and assisting younger artists.
Town Art became independent from Kotobuki in 2000, making a fresh start for the new millennium.
As a pioneer of public art in Japan, we have been providing complete and
comprehensive public art services from the research and analysis of art
objects for public display, to the planning, execution, management and
maintenance of exhibits for over twenty years. Combining professional
expertise and extensive experience in the field of urban landscape and
construction planning, we have participated in over 1,500 public art projects
to date.
Targeting to provide
a culturally and artistically rich environment in society, Town Art
promotes the need of public art in urban planning. Town Art also works to increase the opportunities to showcase and study cultural
differences between Japan and foreign countries by inviting artists from
overseas to participate in various projects through their artwork.
Town Art also
actively helps artists participating in various architectural projects
by providing information on innovative examples from overseas to artists
and architects.
Town Art often
schedules lectures and events along with projects. We invite
those who took part in the project and people from the local community
to the event in order to publicize the public about the meaning of
the artworks and the intentions of the artists.
Art Crossing Hiroshima, is a good example of our approach to the issue of art works within a community.
It took place at five different locations in the center of Hiroshima city:
the open air space, Hiroshima City University Museum of Art, Shareo shopping center, the former Hiroshima Branch of the Bank
of Japan, and their public transportation system that connects each location. Art Crossing intended to create
crossings and intersections between not only various forms of artistic
expression, but also between seven different venues with distinctly different
functions. Considering peoples feelings about the past, present
and future history of Hiroshima, this event was titled "Art
Crossing". It was hoped that the event would instigate further thought and discussion about the
relationship between art and the urban space.
Town Art is aiming to be the center of public art and public art-related
activities. Our hope is to contribute to society through art works, as
a pioneer and a leader of the field.
